Fault finding & repairs
A tripping RCD, a socket that has stopped working or lights that flicker are rarely random. There is a loose connection, a damaged cable or a failing appliance somewhere, and guessing is expensive. We test methodically, find the fault and fix it so it stays fixed.

What's included
Fault finding & repairs: what you get
- Systematic testing to locate the faulty circuit, then the faulty section or accessory
- Repairs to damaged cables, burnt-out accessories, failed switches and loose connections
- Replacement of faulty RCDs, MCBs and RCBOs with matching, correctly rated devices
- Advice if the fault is in an appliance rather than the wiring, so you do not pay for work you do not need
- A Minor Works Certificate for any repair that changes the installation
How it works
Fault finding & repairs in three steps
- 1Describe the faultTell us what happens, when it started and what was switched on at the time. A photo of the consumer unit helps us bring the right parts.
- 2Trace and isolateWe test from the board outwards, isolate the faulty section and confirm the cause before touching anything else.
- 3Fix and certifyThe repair is tested, the circuit is put back into service and you get a certificate where one is required.
Why 2K for repairs
Fault finding is a skill, and it is where experience saves you money. We have seen most of what West London’s wiring can throw up, which means we usually find the cause quickly rather than replacing parts until the symptom goes away. You get a straight explanation of what we found and what it cost to put right.
Questions
Questions about fault finding or a repair
My RCD keeps tripping. Is that dangerous?
The RCD is doing its job by cutting the power to an earth fault. The fault itself could be a damp outdoor socket, a failing appliance or damaged cable. Unplug everything on that circuit and, if it still trips, call us.
Do you do emergency call-outs?
Yes, for genuine emergencies such as a burning smell, scorched sockets or a total loss of power that is not a supplier fault. Call us and we will tell you honestly how quickly we can get there.
What if the fault is with my electricity supplier?
If the whole street is off or the supplier's fuse has failed, that is for your network operator. We can usually tell you over the phone which it is before you pay for a visit.
