Lighting, inside & out

Good lighting changes how a room feels and how much you spend on electricity. We design and install lighting for kitchens, living rooms, bathrooms and gardens, from a straightforward LED upgrade to dimmed scenes controlled from your phone.

What's included

Lighting, inside & out: what you get

  • Fire-rated LED downlights and pendant positions planned around how you use the room
  • Dimmers matched to the lamps so they do not flicker or buzz
  • Garden, path and security lighting with correctly IP-rated fittings and outdoor cabling
  • Smart lighting controls, including systems that work without a neutral at the switch
  • Bathroom lighting that respects the zones in BS 7671 Section 701

How it works

Lighting, inside & out in three steps

  1. 1DesignWe discuss what each room is for, mark fitting positions on a plan or on the ceiling, and agree the controls.
  2. 2InstallCables, fittings and switches go in with minimal making good. For existing ceilings we lift boards from above where we can.
  3. 3Set up and certifyDimmers and smart scenes are programmed, every circuit is tested and you get the certificate.

Why 2K for lighting

Lighting is as much about where the fittings go as about the fittings themselves. We take time to get positions right before cutting holes, we use fittings that are easy to re-lamp, and we make sure outdoor work is protected properly against water and damage. The result looks intentional rather than bolted on.

Questions

Questions about lighting

Do downlights have to be fire-rated?

Where the ceiling is part of a fire barrier, which includes most ceilings between floors in houses and flats, yes. Fire-rated fittings restore the ceiling's fire resistance and are what we fit as standard.

Can you add garden lighting without digging up the whole lawn?

Usually. Armoured cable can be run along fences and borders, and 12 V extra-low-voltage systems need only a shallow trench. We tell you the route before we start.

Why do my LED lamps flicker on a dimmer?

The dimmer is not designed for LED loads or the lamps are not dimmable. A trailing-edge dimmer rated for the lamps fixes it in most cases.
